MacMH Installation Instructions For Syracuse University MacMH is an Email system that runs on any of the public cluster Macintoshes. It works in conjunction with the UNIX mainframe on campus called Rodan. In order to use the package you must have an account on Rodan. You can apply for an account at 116 Hinds Hall (Academic Computing Services Help Center). You will also need a copy of the latest SUMAC System Disk which can be aquired at the same place. HOW TO ACTIVATE YOUR MACMH ACCOUNT ---------------------------------- 1) Boot a public cluster Mac with the SUMAC disk. (Note - it should be System 6.03) 2) Open the Communications folder on the SUMAC Server. Launch the Vax/UNIX icon. 3) Logon to Rodan. Use the account name and password you received from ACS. (NOTE - You must type the name and password EXACTLY as they were given to you.) a) At the system prompt type the command: addmacmail and press the key. b) The system will tell you that it has added a file to your account called ".forward" and that your account is ready to run Mac Mail. If you already have a .forward file in your account then the system will ask you whether or not you would like the file replaced with the Mac Mail version. c) Logout by typing: logout and pressing the key. 4) Quit the terminal program 5) Open the Mail Folder on the SUMAC Server. Launch the Mail icon. 6) The program will ask you where you would like to put your Inbox, Outbox, etc. Find an appropriate disk and click on the button "Select Present Folder." 7) Select the "Get All New Mail" in the Network Menu. a) The first time you run the Mail program you will be asked for your user name. Type it in EXACTLY as you did when you first logged on to Rodan. b) The system will then ask you for your password. Type it in EXACTLY as you did when you first logged on to Rodan. c) You mail will be downloaded to your Macintosh for you.
